The Sauvignon Blanc Biele Zoe Cuvée Friuli wine expresses the bright and natural character of Sauvignon Blanc grown in Friuli. Many people today think this grape is native to the region. In fact, it arrived in the late 1800s, when growers replanted vineyards after oidium damaged local vines. The variety came from Bordeaux and was often planted next to Sauvignonasse (Tocai). Because the two grapes looked and tasted similar, farmers called Sauvignon Blanc “aromatic Tocai.”
This cuvée shows a clean and modern style. It opens with fresh citrus, elderflower, tomato leaf and light peach. The palate is crisp and smooth, with a long mineral finish. Thanks to its balance, it works well both as an aperitif and with food.
