Producer – Domaine Allimant-Laugner
Domaine Allimant-Laugner is a family estate in Orschwiller, Alsace, with winegrowing roots going back to the 17th century. The family has produced wine for eleven generations. Today, the domaine works 12 hectares across 40 separate vineyard parcels.
The estate grows all seven traditional Alsace varieties. In particular, its clay and limestone soils south of Orschwiller are well suited to the Pinot family. Moreover, the winery aims to make fresh, balanced wines with a clear regional character.
Pinot Blanc 2018 – Mature Alsace White Wine
The Domaine Allimant-Laugner Pinot Blanc 2018 is a dry Alsace white with a soft and approachable style. Bottle age has also given this 2018 vintage extra maturity compared with a young Pinot Blanc.
Moreover, Pinot Blanc from this estate combines fresh fruit with a smooth texture. Therefore, it works well both as an aperitif and alongside lighter dishes.
Grape Varieties
- Pinot Blanc
- Auxerrois
The producer’s current Pinot Blanc combines Pinot Blanc with Auxerrois. However, an archived technical sheet for the 2018 vintage is not available on the producer’s current website. Therefore, I would avoid stating exact percentages for the 2018 bottle unless you have its original technical sheet. The domaine confirms that Pinot varieties perform particularly well on its clay-limestone soils.
Maturation
Domaine Allimant-Laugner uses stainless-steel tanks with temperature control in its cellar and ferments its wines with natural yeasts. This approach helps preserve fresh and clear fruit aromas.
However, the producer does not currently publish the specific ageing period for the 2018 Pinot Blanc. Therefore, I would not state a precise maturation time for this vintage.
Tasting Notes
- Colour: Golden straw yellow
- Aroma: Ripe apple, pear, yellow plum and light floral notes
- Palate: Dry and smooth with orchard fruit, gentle acidity and a rounded texture
- Finish: Clean and balanced with soft fruit and mature notes
With several years of bottle age, the 2018 vintage may now show more developed aromas than the producer’s current release. Bottle condition and storage will naturally affect its evolution.
Food Pairings
This Pinot Blanc pairs particularly well with:
- Quiche
- Charcuterie
- Grilled fish
- Roast chicken
- Fresh cheeses
- Salads
- Light pasta dishes
- Alsatian cuisine
In addition, its softer style makes it a good choice for an aperitif.
Style and Character
The Domaine Allimant-Laugner Pinot Blanc 2018 offers a mature take on a classic Alsace white. Moreover, the combination of Pinot Blanc and Auxerrois gives the wine both freshness and a pleasant rounded feel.
In addition, several years of bottle age can bring softer fruit and greater depth. As a result, this vintage offers a different experience from a young, fruit-driven Pinot Blanc.
Overall, the Domaine Allimant-Laugner Pinot Blanc 2018 is a versatile Alsace white with freshness, maturity and an easy-drinking style.
